Statement of Faith

What webelieve.

Ten convictions we will live by, die for, and pass on. They are not novel. They are not ours. They are the faith once for all delivered to the saints.

Jude 1:3 · The Foundation

“Contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.”

The StatementTen Convictions

Plain, ancient,
shared with the saints.

01
God is Triune

One God, in three Persons.

There is one God: infinite, eternal, almighty, and perfect in holiness, truth, and love. In the unity of the godhead there are three Persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - co-existent, co-equal, and co-eternal.

The Father is not the Son and the Son is not the Holy Spirit, yet each is truly Deity. One God - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - is the foundation of Christian faith and life.

Deuteronomy 6:4Matthew 28:192 Corinthians 13:14
02
God the Father

Creator, Sustainer, and Sovereign.

God the Father is the Creator of heaven and earth. By His word and for His glory He freely and supernaturally created the world out of nothing, and through the same word He daily sustains all His creatures.

He rules over all, and His plans and purposes cannot be thwarted. He is faithful to every promise, works all things together for the good of those who love Him, and in His unfathomable grace gave His Son for mankind's redemption.

Genesis 1:1Psalm 103:19Romans 8:28
03
Jesus Christ

Fully God. Fully man. Risen.

Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, is the eternal Word made flesh, supernaturally conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He is fully God and fully man, perfect in nature, teaching, and obedience.

He is the only Savior for the sins of the world, having died a vicarious death on the cross. The third day He rose bodily from the grave, ascended to God's right hand where He intercedes for His people, and awaits His return.

John 1:1-14Philippians 2:5-111 Corinthians 15:3-4
04
The Holy Spirit

Lord and Giver of life.

The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and through the gospel persuades men to repent and confess Jesus as Lord. He unites believers to Jesus Christ in faith, brings about the new birth, and dwells within the regenerate.

He has come to glorify the Son, who in turn came to glorify the Father, and leads the church into a right understanding of God's Word. He is to be respected, honored, and worshipped as God the Third Person of the Trinity.

John 14:16-17John 16:81 Corinthians 12:4-11
05
The Scriptures

The inspired, infallible Word of God.

We accept the Bible - the 39 books of the Old Testament and the 27 books of the New Testament - as the written Word of God, fully and verbally inspired and, as originally given, free of error in all it teaches.

The Scriptures are the authoritative and normative rule and guide of all Christian life, practice, and doctrine. They are totally sufficient and must not be added to, superseded, or changed by later tradition, extra-biblical revelation, or worldly wisdom.

2 Timothy 3:16-172 Peter 1:20-21Psalm 119:105
06
Humanity

Made in God's image. Fallen by sin.

God made man - male and female - in His own image, as the crown of creation, that man might glorify Him through fellowship with Him. Tempted by Satan, man rebelled against God and became estranged from his Maker.

This depravity is radical and pervasive, extending to mind, will, and affections. Fallen, sinful people, whatever their character or attainments, are lost and without hope apart from salvation in Christ alone.

Genesis 1:27Romans 3:23Romans 5:12
07
The Gospel

Jesus Christ is the good news.

The gospel is revealed in Christ's birth, life, death, resurrection, and ascension. His crucifixion is the heart of the gospel, His resurrection is its power, and His ascension is its glory.

Christ's death is a substitutionary and propitiatory sacrifice that satisfies the demands of God's holy justice and reveals His amazing grace. Jesus is the only mediator between God and man; there is no other name by which men must be saved.

1 Corinthians 15:1-4Romans 1:162 Corinthians 5:21
08
Our Response

Faith and repentance.

The proper response to the gospel is faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ, a faith naturally accompanied by repentance from sin. Biblical repentance is characterized by a changed life, and saving faith is evidenced by kingdom service.

While neither repentance nor works save, unless a person is willing to deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Christ, he cannot become His disciple. This gospel of grace is to be sincerely preached to all people in all nations.

Mark 1:15Acts 3:19Luke 9:23
09
Salvation

Grace alone. Faith alone. Christ alone.

Salvation, the free gift of God, is provided by grace alone, through faith alone, because of Christ alone, for the glory of God alone. Anyone turning from sin in repentance and looking to Christ receives the gift of eternal life and is declared righteous.

The righteousness of Christ is imputed to the believer; he is justified, fully accepted by God, reconciled as a child of the Father, forgiven the debt of sin, and through regeneration liberated from the law of sin and death.

Ephesians 2:8-9Romans 10:9-10Titus 3:5
10
Sanctification

Being conformed to Christ.

The Holy Spirit is the active agent in our sanctification, producing His fruit in us as our minds are renewed and we are conformed to the image of Christ. Though indwelling sin remains, as we are led by the Spirit we grow in the knowledge of the Lord.

All believers are exhorted to persevere in the faith - through Bible study, prayer, worship, and confession - yet our ultimate confidence rests in the sure promise of God to preserve His people until the end.

Philippians 1:62 Corinthians 3:18Galatians 5:22-23
11
Empowered by the Spirit

Gifted for witness and service.

The Holy Spirit empowers believers for Christian witness and service, continually filling each believer with power to witness and imparting His supernatural gifts for the edification of the Body and the work of ministry in the world.

All the gifts of the Holy Spirit at work in the church of the first century are available today, and are to be earnestly desired and practiced in an orderly manner. The gifts are essential to the mission of the Church.

Acts 1:81 Corinthians 12:7-11Romans 12:6-8
12
The Church

Worship, and the making of disciples.

By His Word and Spirit, God creates the church, calling sinful people out of the whole human race into the fellowship of Christ's body. The church is not a religious institution or denomination, but all who have become genuine followers of Jesus Christ.

The church exists to worship and glorify God and to serve Him by faithfully doing His will - seeing the gospel preached and churches planted in all the world. Newly redeemed men and women are added to a local church, devoting themselves to teaching, fellowship, the Lord's Supper, and prayer.

Matthew 16:18Ephesians 4:11-16Acts 2:42
13
Marriage & Sexuality

A covenant between one man and one woman.

God created human beings in His image, male and female. We have all sinned and fallen short of God's standards, yet His forgiveness, grace, and mercy extend to each of us who turn from sin and ask for it.

Marriage is a picture of Christ's relationship with His Bride, the Church - defined from the beginning of Scripture as a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman and reaffirmed by Jesus as God's exclusive design for sexual expression.

Genesis 2:24Matthew 19:4-5Ephesians 5:22-231 Thessalonians 4:3-5
14
The Ordinances

Baptism and the Lord's Supper.

Water baptism is for the one who has received the saving benefits of Christ's atoning work. In obedience to Christ's command, a believer is immersed in water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - a symbolic demonstration of union with Christ in His death and resurrection.

The Lord's Supper, also for genuine followers of Christ, symbolizes the breaking of Christ's body and the shedding of His blood on our behalf. Observed repeatedly, with faith and self-examination, we remember and proclaim His death until He returns.

Romans 6:3-5Matthew 28:191 Corinthians 11:23-26
15
The Consummation

Jesus is coming back.

The consummation of all things includes the future, physical, visible, personal, and glorious return of Jesus Christ, the resurrection of the dead, the translation of those alive in Christ, and the judgment of the just and the unjust.

The unrighteous will be consigned to everlasting punishment, and the righteous to their eternal reward in the presence of the Lord. Maranatha - come, Lord Jesus.

Acts 1:111 Thessalonians 4:13-18Revelation 21:1-4
