As For Me & My House: A 21 Day Devotional For Parents

Parents: Day 19 – God’s Work Of Judgment

October 6, 2023

Key Scripture:

Ecclesiastes 3:16-17 – “Moreover, I saw under the sun that in the place of justice, even there was wickedness, and in the place of righteousness, even there was wickedness. I said in my heart, God will judge the righteous and the wicked, for there is a time for every matter and for every work.”

Devotional:

When Jesus is asked what the most important law is, He says, “We are not to judge our neighbors; we are to love them”. How easily do I fall into this place of judging others by the clothes they wear or the car they drive or the house they live in? Pastor Joby often says we cannot turn our nose down at people and at the same time point it up at the cross. If we are turning our nose down at others, that is a heart issue that we need to take care of before going to worship our perfect Lord and Savior.

As parents, we cannot shield our children from the harsh realities of the world. It is crucial to be honest with them about the existence of evil while also providing a safe and nurturing environment where they are loved. As our kids grow and become more aware of the world, it is vital to teach them the way they should walk in times of trial. Just as Solomon observed wickedness and injustice, our kids will experience similar situations. By equipping them to make wise choices and stand for God even when faced with opposition, we are giving them the greatest wisdom for life.

These verses remind us that there will be a time for judgment, where God will hold everyone accountable for their actions. We might feel a variety of emotions when we witness injustice affecting our children or others. During these times, we are reminded to trust in God’s promises and believe that in His time, justice will prevail.

Questions for Reflection:

  • In what ways can we model loving God with our heart, soul, mind and strength?
  • What are some ways you can help equip your children to make wise choices and stand for God’s Kingdom?
