Galatians 5 is the freedom cry of the book. All of Paul’s letter has built up to this point where he says, “For freedom Christ has set us free; stand form therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.”

To be free in Christ is not a feeling or measurable in the life of the Christian. It is a reality of the gospel that frees the Christian from any performance or pretending trap, leading them to obey Christ with joy.

• What does it mean to stand firm and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery?
• How have you experienced freedom from performance and pretending?
• How is God calling you to use your freedom to love and serve one another?

Prayer

Lord, words cannot express my gratitude for the freedom you purchased for me. Help me to understand what that means more every day and lead me to obey you as my response to the gospel. Amen.
